CAN I VIBECODE

Ahrefs?

NOT REALLYA prototype of the interface is possible, but the durable product depends on difficult systems beyond the UI. Build a safer adjacent workflow instead.

BUILD FIRST

  1. A non-sensitive or read-only version of the core experience
  2. A manual review step wherever correctness or trust matters
  3. A narrow companion tool that removes a real piece of work

LEAVE FOR LATER

  1. Regulated decisions, payments, or irreversible actions
  2. Claims of correctness, compliance, or uptime that the MVP cannot support
  3. Sensitive integrations until security, support, and auditability are ready

RESEARCH NOTES

What this tool actually does.

Checked 2026-09-06

Ahrefs is a commercial SEO and competitor analysis platform. Site Explorer provides in-depth data on any website's organic traffic, paid traffic, backlink profile, site structure, top pages, keywords, and AI answer presence. Rank Tracker monitors keyword rankings across 190+ countries, desktop/mobile, and locations down to ZIP code, covering 19 SERP features including AI Overviews, with position history charts and target URL outrank warnings. Site Audit crawls all pages of a site, identifies 170+ on-page and technical SEO issues, groups them by type, provides fix instructions, visualizes data via charts, and delivers an overall SEO health score with issues segmented into errors, warnings, and notices. These three tools form the core of Ahrefs' typical workflow: discover a competitor's strengths, track your own rankings, and continuously audit your technical SEO health.

RESEARCHED BUILD PROMPT

Give this to your coding agent.

Build a focused replacement for the core SEO workflow of Ahrefs (Site Audit, Rank Tracker, Site Explorer). The app maps to a real workflow: a user inputs a domain, runs a crawl of public pages, gets technical SEO issues flagged (missing meta descriptions, duplicate titles, broken links, slow pages, missing alt text, indexability problems), and receives an overall health score grouped into errors, warnings, and notices. Then the user adds keywords, which are checked periodically against a configurable SERP provider (SerpAPI or a mock provider), with position history stored and displayed as trend charts. Finally, a simplified competitor/site explorer view shows top pages by internal links and a basic backlink count imported from a public API or a mock CSV. Requirements: web backend plus minimal frontend, a crawl queue worker, SQLite or Postgres storage, a scheduler (CRON) for rank checks, CSV export of audit results, and a demo mode with seeded sample domains. Implementation suggestions: Node.js or Python backend; crawling with Playwright or Cheerio; a simple server-rendered UI or a lightweight React/Vue dashboard; Chart.js for visualizations. Do NOT copy Ahrefs' brand, logo, copy, colors, layout, or trademarked feature names — use original naming and a neutral admin-dashboard aesthetic. Out of scope: full backlink index crawling, paid ads data, AI search insights, multi-user billing, and enterprise permissions. Deliver a README covering setup (env vars, provider keys), how the crawler and scheduler work, and key limitations (no real backlink index, no guaranteed SERP accuracy, crawl-rate constraints).
