CAN I VIBECODE

Baremetrics?

KINDAYou can build the valuable core, but the established product has meaningful operational complexity. Pick one narrow promise for v1.

BUILD FIRST

  1. One specific customer type and one primary use case
  2. A vertical slice that completes the main job without manual workarounds
  3. Visible limits, review steps, and a fallback when an external dependency fails

LEAVE FOR LATER

  1. Broad third-party integrations
  2. High-scale collaboration, syncing, and permissions
  3. Automation that can cause harm without human review

What this tool actually does.

Baremetrics is a subscription analytics and revenue intelligence platform for SaaS/subscription businesses. It reads billing data primarily from Stripe (plus other payment providers) via one-click integrations and computes SaaS metrics: MRR, ARR, ARPU, LTV, churn (revenue and user), trial conversion, failed charges, refunds, upgrades/downgrades, quick ratio, and more. Core dashboard features: Control Center overview, comparative Dashboard, Forecast (12-month cash flow and customer projections based on renewal dates and recent growth rates), Benchmark comparisons against anonymized industry data, Goals tracking, Trial Insights with notes, Segmentation, per-customer timeline, and Augmentation to merge external data. Additional engagement features: Cancellation Insights (collects cancellation reasons, attributes revenue loss, sends win-back emails) and dunning for failed payments. Public Re

RESEARCHED BUILD PROMPT

Give this to your coding agent.

Build a self-hosted subscription analytics web app inspired by Baremetrics' core workflow: connect to a billing provider, ingest transaction/customer data, compute and display recurring revenue metrics, and support cohort/segmentation exploration.

Workflow: An admin connects a Stripe account via API keys. A background sync pulls customers, subscriptions, invoices, charges, refunds, and events nightly (plus manual "Sync now"). The backend replays events into a normalized store (customers, subscription states, charges, plan changes). A metric engine computes daily snapshots: MRR, ARR, ARPU, LTV, active subscriptions/customers, new/canceled/reactivated customers, upgrades/downgrades, failed charges, refunds, revenue churn, net revenue churn, user churn, trial starts/conversions/cancellations, and quick ratio. UI shows: a Control Center with KPI cards and sparklines; a Dashboard with time-series line/area charts and month-over-month comparison; a Customers list with per-customer timeline of payments and plan changes; a Cancellations view where admins record a reason per cancellation and see revenue lost per reason; a Forecast page projecting MRR and cash for 12 months using renewal dates plus a 3-month average growth rate; and CSV export for all filtered views.

Technical requirements: Node.js + TypeScript backend, SQLite or Postgres, Stripe SDK, cron-based sync, idempotent event ingestion, metric snapshots stored in a timeseries table, React + a charting library (e.g., Recharts) frontend, API-key auth for the data API, simple session-based admin auth. Use Stripe test mode for demo seed data.

Do not copy Baremetrics' name, logo, branding, copy, or visual design. Build a generic clean SaaS analytics UI with your own layout and colors.

Out of scope: dunning/email recovery, benchmarks against other companies, goals, trial insight notes, external data augmentation, multi-tenant accounts, Stripe Billing webhook configuration (polling acceptable), production security hardening.

Include a README with setup steps (env vars, Stripe test keys, seed script), architecture overview, and important limitations (metric definitions may diverge from Baremetrics; no benchmark data; polling latency up to 24h; not a billing system).
