CAN I VIBECODE

BoltAI?

KINDAYou can build the valuable core, but the established product has meaningful operational complexity. Pick one narrow promise for v1.

BUILD FIRST

  1. One specific customer type and one primary use case
  2. A vertical slice that completes the main job without manual workarounds
  3. Visible limits, review steps, and a fallback when an external dependency fails

LEAVE FOR LATER

  1. Broad third-party integrations
  2. High-scale collaboration, syncing, and permissions
  3. Automation that can cause harm without human review

RESEARCH NOTES

What this tool actually does.

Checked 2026-09-06

BoltAI is a native macOS AI assistant app supporting 300+ models via OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, DeepSeek, Mistral, Azure, and Amazon Bedrock, plus local models through Ollama and LM Studio. Features include multi-model and multi-agent chat with parallel sessions, per-agent customization (system instructions, tools, knowledge), advanced LLM parameters (temperature, top-p/k, penalties, reasoning effort), MCP tool support, vision analysis, image generation, document Q&A, and code execution. Distinctive workflows: AI Commands for inline AI within any app, ShotSolve screenshot-to-answer, instant dictation, and a built-in prompt library. It includes project folders with inherited context, chat forking, full-text search, import/export (JSON/Markdown/HTML), Markdown/PDF export, voice input, read-aloud, theme customization, and shortcuts. Users bring their own API keys or subscriptions.

RESEARCHED BUILD PROMPT

Give this to your coding agent.

Build 'PromptDeck', a local-first desktop AI assistant for macOS (SwiftUI or Tauri+React) replicating BoltAI's core workflow: a single window where users configure multiple named AI assistants, each with system instructions, temperature, top-p, max tokens, penalty sliders, and optional attached knowledge documents; a chat list that can start several parallel chats per assistant and compare responses side by side; an inline 'AI Command' palette triggered by a global hotkey that sends selected text from any app to a chosen assistant and pastes or copies the result; a screenshot-capture shortcut that opens the image in a vision chat; and a prompt library with searchable snippets inserted via shortcut. Requirements: support OpenAI-compatible HTTP APIs, Anthropic, and local Ollama endpoints; per-assistant and per-chat context limits; chat history persistence in SQLite; import/export chats as Markdown/JSON; poll model lists from provider endpoints; store API keys in Keychain/OS keyring; allow custom base URLs. Implementation: use TypeScript + Tauri for a small native binary, or Swift/SwiftUI for true macOS-native feel; use plain fetch wrappers or LangChain.js; state with Zustand; workspace folders that inherit assistant configuration. Do not copy BoltAI branding, logo, or exact UI layout; design your own visual identity. Out of scope: MCP servers, multi-agent orchestration, image generation, voice transcription, plugins marketplace, mobile versions, server-side sync. Deliver a README covering setup (install dependencies, configure providers, key storage), usage walkthrough for the three core flows, and limitations (single-user, no MCP, no mobile, API-key custody lies with user).
