CodeSpring?
BUILD FIRST
- One specific customer type and one primary use case
- A vertical slice that completes the main job without manual workarounds
- Visible limits, review steps, and a fallback when an external dependency fails
LEAVE FOR LATER
- Broad third-party integrations
- High-scale collaboration, syncing, and permissions
- Automation that can cause harm without human review
RESEARCH NOTES
What this tool actually does.
CodeSpring is a web-based planning and orchestration tool for AI-assisted app development. Users visually map a project on an interactive canvas (mindmap) with features and sub-features, then generate product requirement documents (PRDs) and a prioritized Kanban task list. The plan is exposed to external AI coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Gemini CLI, Roo, VS Code Copilot) via a CLI and a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server (streamable HTTP endpoint at codespring.app/api/mcp with x-api-key header). An npm tool (@codespring-app/install-mcp) auto-configures the MCP server across clients. A GitHub skills pack (codespring-skills) teaches agents to list/start/complete tasks, read/sync/generate PRDs, update mindmap nodes (tech stack, features, notes), import existing codebases, build features with up to 5 parallel sub-agents, and resync the map after builds. The workflow targets non-
RESEARCHED BUILD PROMPT
Give this to your coding agent.
Build a self-hosted web app (working title 'PlanForge') that replicates CodeSpring's core workflow: visual app planning with AI-agent handoff.
Workflow: 1) User creates a project and lays out features/sub-features on a draggable mindmap canvas. 2) Each feature node accepts free-form notes; user clicks 'Generate PRD' to produce a structured product requirement doc (frontend/backend/both) via an LLM API. 3) User clicks 'Generate Tasks' to convert feature PRDs into a numbered, prioritized Kanban board. 4) External AI coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, etc.) connect via an MCP server or CLI to list/start/complete tasks, read PRDs, and update the map.
Requirements:
- User-facing: canvas mindmap editor, PRD viewer/editor, Kanban board with status transitions, project workspaces, API key management, task/PRD sync status indicators.
- Technical: TypeScript + React frontend, Node/Express backend, SQLite persistence, SSE for board updates; MCP server exposing tools (list_tasks, start_task, complete_task, read_prd, sync_map); CLI wrapper; LLM integration for PRD generation behind an API key.
- The MCP server must allow package installs and dev-server lifecycle management to stay attached to tasks (headless, log-capturing).
Do not copy CodeSpring's brand name, logo, visual design, or marketing copy. Build an original, minimal UI.
Out of scope: multi-user auth/RBAC, cloud hosting, monetization, mobile apps, 'import existing codebase' and 'security review' agents (stub them).
Deliver a README with setup instructions, environment variables, MCP client configuration examples, and known limitations (e.g., single-user, no Git integration, LLM costs, MCP client compatibility).
