CAN I VIBECODE

Dashlane?

KINDAYou can build the valuable core, but the established product has meaningful operational complexity. Pick one narrow promise for v1.

BUILD FIRST

  1. One specific customer type and one primary use case
  2. A vertical slice that completes the main job without manual workarounds
  3. Visible limits, review steps, and a fallback when an external dependency fails

LEAVE FOR LATER

  1. Broad third-party integrations
  2. High-scale collaboration, syncing, and permissions
  3. Automation that can cause harm without human review

RESEARCH NOTES

What this tool actually does.

Checked 2026-09-06

Dashlane is a commercial password manager with web, Android, iPhone, and macOS apps. It stores credentials, passkeys, secure notes, personal information, payments, and IDs in a vault. Data is encrypted on-device using zero-knowledge architecture plus confidential computing in its Secure Cloud; Dashlane states it cannot see stored passwords. Features include autofill, password generator, password health, password history, import/export, collections, secure sharing, dark web monitoring, security alerts, 2FA, account recovery, biometric/PIN unlock, passwordless login, VPN for Wi-Fi protection, 1 GB encrypted file storage, phishing alerts, and AI-powered scam protection that warns before visiting suspicious sites. Premium Plus adds credit monitoring, identity theft insurance, and identity restoration.

RESEARCHED BUILD PROMPT

Give this to your coding agent.

Build a self-hosted, Dashlane-like zero-knowledge password manager web app (working name: VaultKeeper). Workflow: user registers with a master password; browser derives an AES-256-GCM key via Argon2id (64 MB, 3 iterations, p=1) with a per-user random salt; server stores only an Argon2id verifier plus encrypted vault blob; all vault CRUD (logins, secure notes, cards, IDs) is client-side; decrypted data lives in memory only. Autofill: a Manifest V3 browser extension injects credentials on hostname match, with edit, generate (CSPRNG 16–32 chars mixed), and a collection-based folder view; sharing uses encrypt-to-recipient RSA so the server never sees plaintext. Also: CSV import / JSON export, password strength meter, breached-password check against a local HaveIBeenPwned range file (never upload hashes), TOTP 2FA, idle timeout. Tech: React + TypeScript + Web Crypto API for all encryption, Node/Express + SQLite backend. Out of scope: passkeys, VPN, dark-web monitoring, mobile apps, Teams/admin, file storage beyond 5 MB, AI scam protection, phishing warnings, or any synced data of the original service. Do not copy Dashlane branding or UI; create an original sidebar-vault interface with item detail pane and extension popup. README must cover setup, crypto design and rationale, threat model, and known limitations such as no offline mode, single-user encrypted blob, no password history.
