Granola?
YESA focused first version is a sensible AI-assisted build. Keep the first release narrow and polish the workflow people repeat.
BUILD FIRST
- One defined user and a repeatable end-to-end job
- A small, clear data model with sign-in only if it is genuinely needed
- Loading, empty, error, and success states that make the workflow feel complete
LEAVE FOR LATER
- Large integration marketplaces
- Multi-region scale and enterprise administration
- Every power-user setting from the established product
RESEARCH NOTES
What this tool actually does.
Granola is a desktop and mobile meeting-notes app that captures microphone and system audio when the user starts a note, transcribes it, and turns the transcript plus raw notes and calendar context into editable AI-enhanced notes. Notes are private by default and can be exported or shared to tools such as Slack and Notion.
RESEARCHED BUILD PROMPT
Give this to your coding agent.
Build a focused, local-first meeting-notes companion for one desktop user. Do not copy Granola's brand, proprietary assets, or UI.
Core workflow
- Let the user explicitly start, pause, and stop a meeting capture session after granting microphone and system-audio permissions.
- Transcribe through a provider adapter, keep a raw transcript beside editable notes, and use the transcript plus typed notes to produce a concise summary, decisions, and action items with links back to transcript timestamps.
- Provide meeting history, full-text search, delete/retention controls, Markdown export, and a private-by-default note view with an explicit share action.
- Include settings for microphone/input selection, transcription provider/API key, model choice, storage retention, and a visible recording/consent reminder. Keep audio temporary by default and document exactly what is stored.
Implementation and scope
- Use Electron or Tauri with a small local SQLite store and a replaceable transcription/LLM adapter. Make capture permissions and provider failures first-class states.
- Out of scope: meeting bots that join calls, calendar/Zoom automation, live speaker diarization, CRM/Slack/Notion integrations, team permissions, and enterprise compliance claims.
- Seed a sample transcript and make the complete start → transcribe → edit → export flow testable without real audio.
Include a README with setup, OS permissions, provider configuration, consent/privacy behavior, and important limitations.
