CAN I VIBECODE

Moxie?

NOT REALLYA prototype of the interface is possible, but the durable product depends on difficult systems beyond the UI. Build a safer adjacent workflow instead.

BUILD FIRST

  1. A non-sensitive or read-only version of the core experience
  2. A manual review step wherever correctness or trust matters
  3. A narrow companion tool that removes a real piece of work

LEAVE FOR LATER

  1. Regulated decisions, payments, or irreversible actions
  2. Claims of correctness, compliance, or uptime that the MVP cannot support
  3. Sensitive integrations until security, support, and auditability are ready

What this tool actually does.

Checked 2026-09-06

Moxie is a freelance business management platform with built-in accounting tools. Core workflow: freelancers track time and expenses per client/project, create invoices from tracked time and reimbursable expenses, set up recurring invoices and payment plans, record payments and other income, and review cash flow. Bank/card accounts sync via Plaid to auto-populate expenses. Integrates with QuickBooks for export/accountant collaboration. Includes client tracking, vendor tracking, products/services line items, and a cash-based Money In & Out report comparing received income and paid expenses. Profit & loss reports are available. Designed for freelancers replacing separate invoicing, time-tracking, expense, and accounting tools.

RESEARCHED BUILD PROMPT

Give this to your coding agent.

Build a focused replacement web app replicating Moxie's freelance finance workflow—do not copy Moxie's brand, logo, marketing copy, or UI. The app shall cover: 1) clients and projects; 2) time tracking against projects; 3) expense entry with category, receipt attachment, and reimbursable flag; 4) invoice generation from tracked time plus reimbursable expenses, including manual line items, recurring schedules, and payment plans; 5) payment recording (on- or off-invoice); 6) a cash-based Money In & Out report; 7) vendor tracking; 8) products/services library. Implement Plaid-link bank/credit-card sync via Plaid API sandbox or CSV upload for expenses. Export invoices as PDF; export financial data to QuickBooks-compatible CSV. Stack: Next.js/React, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, Prisma; auth via NextAuth; Plaid for bank feeds; PDF generation via react-pdf; background job runner for recurring invoice generation. Require multi-tenant data isolation, per-entity audit log, and express-deliverable UX for non-accountants. Out of scope: full QuickBooks OAuth sync, tax filing/calculation, payment gateway execution, automated bank reconciliation, mobile apps. Include a README documenting setup, sample seed data, and limitations (e.g., cash-based accounting only, no multi-currency).
