RESEARCH NOTES
What this tool actually does.
PromptDC is a Chrome extension and IDE extension serving as an AI writing and prompt assistance tool inside any web text box. Users select text or press a shortcut; a floating toolbar appears beside the selection offering one-click rewrites. Editable fields are rewritten in place; read-only selections are copied to the clipboard. The extension auto-detects the active AI product (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, Cursor, Lovable, Bolt, etc.) and applies context-appropriate rewrite profiles. Nine built-in profiles exist: Grammar, Email, Social, Reply, Professional, Concise, Summarize, Explain, and Image Prompt, with per-website default rules (e.g., Grammar on Gmail, Social on LinkedIn). A dedicated coding mode rewrites vague developer prompts into implementation-ready instructions, with model/IDE selection in the IDE extension. Every change previews before acceptance. Pricing: $9/mo Pro (200
RESEARCHED BUILD PROMPT
Give this to your coding agent.
Build a focused replacement for PromptDC's core browser-extension workflow: a Chrome Extension that enhances writing and coding prompts in any web text box. User flow: user selects text or presses Alt+P; a small floating toolbar appears near the selection with five actions: Fix Grammar, Summarize, Rewrite, Explain, and Enhance Coding Prompt. Clicking an action calls a configurable LLM and shows a preview popover with Accept, Edit, and Copy buttons. Accept writes the result back into an editable field in place; Copy handles read-only pages. The extension detects the current hostname to apply per-site default profiles (e.g., Gmail → Grammar, LinkedIn → Social) and detects known AI studios (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Cursor) to bias the coding-prompt enhancement. Technical requirements: Manifest V3 content script injecting a shadow-DOM toolbar, background service worker proxying requests to the LLM provider, settings page for bring-your-own-key supporting OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and Grok-compatible endpoints, keys stored in chrome.storage.local. Use plain TypeScript and a minimal neutral UI. Do not copy PromptDC's brand, logo, colors, or layout. Out of scope: no IDE extension, no subscription/billing, no accounts, no per-site rule editor beyond a simple default-profile dropdown, no prompt libraries. Deliver a README with setup steps (load unpacked, add key, permissions), architecture summary, and limitations (API costs, rate limits, storage security, sites blocking content scripts, LLM output variability).
