Tally?
YESA focused first version is a sensible AI-assisted build. Keep the first release narrow and polish the workflow people repeat.
BUILD FIRST
- One defined user and a repeatable end-to-end job
- A small, clear data model with sign-in only if it is genuinely needed
- Loading, empty, error, and success states that make the workflow feel complete
LEAVE FOR LATER
- Large integration marketplaces
- Multi-region scale and enterprise administration
- Every power-user setting from the established product
RESEARCH NOTES
What this tool actually does.
Tally is a form builder with unlimited forms and submissions within fair-use guidelines. Its official feature pages describe block-style inputs, conditional logic and calculations, file uploads, redirects and thank-you screens, duplicate prevention, submissions, embeds, and integrations such as Google Sheets, Notion, Airtable, Zapier, and webhooks.
RESEARCHED BUILD PROMPT
Give this to your coding agent.
Build a focused hosted form builder for a small team. Do not copy Tally's brand, proprietary assets, or UI.
Core workflow
- Provide an authenticated form editor with ordered blocks for text, email, number, select, checkbox, radio, date, and long text. Support labels, help text, required validation, a preview, draft/published state, and a shareable responsive form URL.
- Store submissions in a clear schema and provide a table with filters, detail view, CSV export, and a configurable thank-you screen or safe redirect after completion.
- Add simple conditional visibility and calculations using a small, documented expression model. Include duplicate-submission protection, spam/rate limits, and visible validation/error states.
- Add one outbound webhook with retry status and a test button; keep collected data private by default and offer deletion/retention controls.
Implementation and scope
- Use a React editor with JSON form definitions, a server-side submission endpoint, and SQLite/Postgres persistence. Seed a registration form and sample responses for local testing.
- Out of scope: payments, e-signatures, file uploads, multilingual/RTL parity, embedded popups, template marketplaces, dozens of integrations, enterprise SSO, and unlimited-scale promises.
- Do not reproduce the original visual language; make the editor and public form visually distinct and accessible.
Include a README with setup, form schema, validation/logic rules, webhook behavior, privacy/retention decisions, and important limitations.
